Want to know how a car wrapping business gets its start and grows into something special? If so, Richard Clark (the founder of Raccoon) is here to help! Attending WrapFest 2024, he took to the stage to answer this very question – using Raccoon’s success to inspire others. Watch the video for the full talk or read on for more about WrapFest, plus some key takeaways.
Every year, WrapFest in Silverstone plays host to big names in the vehicle wrapping, vinyl installation, PPF and detailing community. It’s a place where like-minded folk come together to share their ideas, present their latest projects, and push the industry forward. This two-day show features some exciting reveals, but it’s also highly educational.
The show features Wrap Talks, a platform where thought-leaders share their experience with like-minded wrappers and newcomers alike. Most importantly, it’s about pushing excellence to give customers the best results possible.
Richard began his talk by explaining his start in printing, before quickly moving into vinyl installation and vehicle wrapping. Because today’s materials didn’t exist in the 90s, the process involved a huge amount of trial and error.
Unafraid to try new things, he brought this approach to Raccoon and soon applied what he’d learned to Promohire.
“We had to work out how we could take a 3M chrome film that was only suitable for flat surfaces and wrap it around a car. And we solved the problem by combining it with a based cast film. We put a cast optically clear laminate to create a three-layer product.”
Materials have come a long way since then, so we’re consistently able to deliver quality vinyl installations, backed by reliable warranties.
“Around 2005, we were the only company that stepped up and agreed to wrap the London Eye capsules. Other companies looked at it (and saw) a complex project.”
In recent years, we’ve wrapped everything from Formula 1 racing cars to the Propercorn cement mixer and Deliveroo helicopter!
“Local businesses are trying to bring their vehicles to life online. They’re giving them names and Facebook pages, running competitions to upload photos for discounts, and using them to drive marketing in new and unusual ways.”
So, why not pick someone who offers more than a typical car wrapping business? We can provide everything needed for an event or activation, where high-impact visuals are needed to reach a wide audience.
A 20-minute talk didn’t give Richard much time, so there was plenty left on the cutting-room floor:
